The Heavy Groceries

Yesterday, after I left the office, I swung by Periplus to grab a book. I overheard a guy in his 50s asking his wife, “Sayang, that bag is heavy. Let me carry it for you.”

Out of nowhere, I found myself thinking about all those times I’d ask my girlfriend the same question whenever I spotted her lugging groceries or a heavy bag. I always offered to help.

And every time, we men would get the same response:

""Thanks for the offer, but I've got it covered!"

It's funny how guys often feel the need to jump in and help, while women are all about showing their independence. Maybe it’s about wanting to prove they can handle things, pushing back against old-school gender roles, or just wanting to tackle stuff solo.
